Are the Japanese ashamed? Germany has just overtaken Japan as the 3rd largest economy in the world by GDP. What explains Japan's stagnant economy and Germany's surpassing of Japan?

Let’s not be too harsh on Japan. This is not a fair comparison. Germany is an independent country while Japan is a US vassal jumping through hoops and immolate itself to keep its suzerain’s economy strong.
The 1985 Plaza Accord has severely hamstrung Japan’s ability to sustain its economical growth. It will take Japan a long time, if possible, to recover. With the US high interest rate, ever-rising national debt and addictive money-printing, Japan’s national debt continues to rise in sync. Japan will continue on its survival mode for decades to come. This is the price to pay for its WW II atrocity. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.

Japan must be doing very badly, if Germany has just overtaken it. Germany is in recession now.

those responsible for ww2 atrocities are long dead. many in the present generations still suffer from the effects of the h-bombs. seems like a pretty nasty comment to wish harm to the japanese people now. not unlike usa whites being held responsible for slavery by their ancestors? or a whole family made responsible for crimes comitted by 1 member. but we dont accept that do we? so why be a hypocrite?

Do you condone Japan for intervening in Taiwan reunification with China? Why or why not? Do you condemn Israel for apartheid and the looming GENOCIDE? Let’s see how you define hypocrisy.

I support Japan in letting the Taiwanese make their decisions.
I support Israelis in making their own decisions for survival.
Are these hypocritical?

Of course it is. Try reading your statements .
Both Japan & Germany are dying economically OK
It was Japan’s attempt to kick start their economy after the Plaza Accords that killed their economy. If they hadn’t gone full tilt their economy would have recovered normally.
“kick start their economy after the Plaza Accords” ?? How did Japan “kick start” economy? Care to elaborate?
Super easy access to credit for real estate and tech. Caused a bubble. Nasty result. Germany went through the same thing but didn’t do the easy credit. Came out with flying colors.

Obviously the economic sectors which Germany specializes in are faring better than the sectors the Japanese specialize in. It’s cyclical, by the way, and such dominance typically doesn’t last forever. Don’t forget that Germany was more powerful industrially than Japan until fairly recently anyway (1980s).
There's no need for the Japanese to feel ashamed. Economic rankings can fluctuate over time due to various factors. Japan has faced challenges in recent years, such as an aging population and slow economic growth. On the other hand, Germany has experienced strong export-driven growth and a robust manufacturing sector. It's important to remember that economies are complex and influenced by multiple factors.
The population of Japan is falling like a stone. While Japanese have a lot of wealth accumulated from it’s past it’s future doesn't look rosey.
This is why they have a major problem with caring for their elderly.
Because Japan is an aging country refusing immigration work forces and producing most outside the country as Germany does the contrary : import a massive work force and home produces almost everything.
Why would they be ashamed? They aren’t going hungry and the joke is on us. The same countries (Germany and Japan) that are combatant and still came up winners.
Who is laughing now?
Sekiguchi Masanori (日本人)
So there is nothing to be ashamed about.
Have fuuuuuun!
Germany is in recession since the US sabotaged their gas pipeline
Japan’s population is declining and that isn’t helping anything. Old people aren’t working and not enough young people to support them.
I recommend the book, Capitalism the Unknown Ideal, by Ayn Rand, a Russian-American philosopher, not an economist. It contains an essay, "What is Capitalism," because the author rightly holds that most people don't know what it is. She writes about laissez-faire capitalism, not the mixtures of capitalism, fascism, and socialism we have today. Also, she gives a moral defense of it, which nobody else does. It was published about 1964 so you can tell how prescient she was. Also check out YouTube to see her on the Johnny Carson show (3 times) in 1967. She wrote both fiction and non-fiction.
Race to the bottom, the Japanese and German economies. Both economies sabotaged by their ‘ally’, America, one by the Plaza Accord, the other by Nord Stream. This is the price paid for losing national sovereignty. Whether, like North Korea or Russia, a country is sanctioned, or have your gas pipeline blown up, it comes to the same thing.
